Little Boys and Girls (ages 6 to 12)

Daily activities are centered around a behavior modification program known as the Family Teaching Model. Ask staff for more information on behavior modification. During the school year, most children attend public school. For those children who are not able to attend school and during the summer months, the day is structured so that the children are engaged in academic activities followed by physical exercise. Evenings also provide the children with a wide variety of interesting and fun activities. During the school year, the children have a study time, help from tutors, a story reader, and different therapeutic groups. During the summer months the therapeutic groups continue, but the children are also involved in outings and other enrichment activities. The program offers practical skills for daily living which are central to the development and maintenance of health relationships within a family or society.

Teen Boys (ages 8 to 18)

Boys learn four basic social skills in a structured environment using a behavior modification program known as the Family Teaching Model. (Ask staff for more information about the behavior modification program.) This program requires that each boy be responsible for doing chores and provides many recreational and learning activities on a daily basis. Most boys attend school during the school year. For those boys who are not enrolled in school and during the summer months, a structured program of academic activity and physical recreation is provided each day. Boys are engaged in a number of activities in the evening including therapeutic groups and recreation, such as movies and basketball.

To better meet the needs of individual boys, the Boys Department is divided into two groups. These groups are organized predominantly by age; however behavior and/or emotional level of functioning are also considered. Therefore, older or younger aged boys may be placed in either group: Alpha is for ages 13 to 15 (sometimes a boy younger than 13 will be in this department) and Omega for ages 15 to 18.

Teen Girls (ages 11 to 18)

Girls learn four basic social skills in a structured environment using a behavior modification program known as the Family Teaching Model. This program requires that each girl is responsible for doing chores and provides many recreational and academic activities on a daily basis. Most girls attend school during the school year. For those girls who are not enrolled in school and during the summer months, a structured program of academic activity and physical recreation is provided each day.

There are two departments within the Girls Department: Girls Temporary Shelter (GTS) and the Girls Emergency Shelter (GES).
