Volunteering at the Home

Volunteers at the Wichita Children’s Home are used to fill a variety of roles, either as an individual or in groups. Since the Home is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, volunteers are utilized around the clock. They can maintain a consistent schedule or choose a flexible one, depending on their availability.

Volunteers can help in many ways, including but not limited to:

Child Care

Location:
Wichita Children's Home

Duties:
Provide child care for teen mothers in our BRIDGES Independent Living Program. Allow parents with little or no family support the opportunity to have a few hours of personal time for errands and appointments. This is a perfect opportunity for small groups as well as individuals.

Note: Minimum two hour shift required.

Availability:

Cook

Location:
Wichita Children's Home

Duties:
Be a role model for approximately 15 teenage boys between the ages of 16 and 19 years living in our BRIDGES Independent Living Program by cooking a meal with residents. Youth will learn food preparation, meal planning and basic cooking skills. Food is provided by WCH. Volunteers are encouraged to make meal suggestions.

Donations Sorter

Location:

Duties:
Sort and distribute new and used donations.

Note: Some lifting required.

Gardener

Location:
Wichita Children's Home

Duties:
Help maintain gardens and landscaping by weeding, trimming bushes, and planting flowers. WCH to supply all gardening materials.

Kitchen Assistant

Location:
Wichita Children's Home

Duties:
Assist kitchen staff with prep work for meals. Great opportunity for those who love to cook, but would prefer not to work directly with the children.

Opportunity Zone

Location:

Receptionist

Location:
Wichita Children's Home

Duties:
Provide assistance to callers, guests, visitors, and clients of WCH and operate a multi line phone system. Also responsible for some clerical duties as time permits.

Availability:
Weekends only

Transportation

Location:
BRIDGES Phase 2 Apartment

Duties:
Drivers needed to transport BRIDGES, Phase 2 youth to and from school, work or other appointments.

Availability:
Monday through Friday from 7am - 9am or 3pm - 5pm.

Qualifications:
Volunteers must possess a valid Kansas Drivers License. All volunteers transporting youth will have their driving records checked before they may begin volunteering.
