A Home With A Heart

The roots of The Wichita Children's Home date back over 135 years. In 1888, a farmer who tragically lost his wife during childbirth needed assistance in caring for his seven children. In response to this neighbor's plight, Catherine Garver united community members to provide childcare and support. That same year, Garver formally founded the Wichita Children's Home to serve the local community's children in crisis.

Hands making a heart shape

The tradition of neighbors supporting neighbors remains unchanged and lies at the core of the Wichita Children's Home and the wider Wichita community. As our community's needs evolve, we are dedicated to continually providing transformative experiences for the children we serve. We are committed to helping them discover their intrinsic worth, heal from childhood trauma, and ultimately empower them to turn their struggles into strengths.

Neighbors Still Helping Neighbors

Today's Wichita Children's Home draws strength from our community partners in the same spirit as the early community members who united to aid a family in crisis. We are dedicated to offering programs and services that foster collaboration within our community to prevent, treat, and heal trauma for children and youth affected by abuse, neglect, human trafficking, grief, and homelessness. Through our network of community coalitions, partners, volunteers, donors, and staff, we help our children and youth navigate through difficult times so they can have the strength to hope, dream, and aspire.
